Our Approach

The People-Centered Climate Action in Private Markets (PCAP) initiative convenes private capital general partners (GPs), limited partners (LPs), civil society, and other stakeholders to co-develop insights and resources, facilitate shared learning, and enable meaningful multi-stakeholder engagement. PCAP aims to accelerate ambitious climate investment strategies that embed human rights and advance a just transition across private capital markets.

What is 'People-Centered Climate Action'?

People-centered climate action refers to climate strategies that respect human rights and leave no one behind in the transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy. It is grounded in internationally recognized responsible business conduct frameworks, namely, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and seeks to advance a just transition to a human rights economy that is fair, inclusive, and sustainable.

Why Private Markets?

Climate change poses systemic risks to financial markets, economies, and societies. Reaching global climate goals requires an estimated US$7.4 trillion in annual investment through 2030. As stewards of trillions of dollars and influential shapers of corporate governance, private equity and venture capital investors have the power to accelerate the development of climate solutions and transform business models across high-emitting sectors. By aligning climate action with human rights approaches, private capital can drive a just transition that delivers long-term value for both people and markets.
