About Us
What is PCAP?
Climate change poses systemic risks to economies and societies, demanding rapid action to transition to low-carbon and climate-resilient markets. Climate action that delivers good jobs, expanded access to clean energy, cleaner air and water, improved public health, and a prosperous economy for all is now an urgent imperative for financial markets.
The People-Centered Climate Action in Private Markets (PCAP) initiative equips private capital investors and stakeholders with practical tools to advance a just transition that respects human rights and leaves no one behind.
How We Work
PCAP convenes General Partners (GPs), Limited Partners (LPs), and civil society organizations to co-develop insights, resources, and shared learning that strengthen people-centered climate action across private markets.
As the Secretariat, BSR coordinates the delivery of PCAP's strategic objectives and vision, supports alignment of priorities and approaches to people-centered climate action in private capital markets, and promotes multi-engagement.
Empowering Change
Benefits of
Engaging PCAP
Early Leverage for Long-Term Impact
Private capital investors hold unique influence to shape and scale climate-friendly, rights-respecting, and inclusive business models early in a company’s lifecycle, whether through venture funding of start-ups or private equity investments in growth-stage firms.
Managing Risk, Unlocking Value
PCAP’s tools help investors identify and address the human rights impacts, risks, and opportunities of the climate transition, strengthening value chain resilience and aligning with emerging regulatory and market expectations.
Creating Shared Prosperity
By linking climate performance with positive outcomes for workers, communities, and consumers, including benefits-sharing the PCAP supports long-term value creation that benefits both business and society.
Standards-Based and Action-Oriented
Drawing on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, PCAP’s resources enable investors to conduct robust and inclusive risk-based due diligence and integrate human rights in climate strategies and transition planning.
